FFL's Festival Validation
FFL feels responsible for only allowing legitimate and relevant festivals to accept submissions through our platform. Thus we verify the festival's legitimacy and relevance before pushing the call for submissions live. Some festivals are not being allowed to accept submissions at all. For festivals allowed to accept submissions FFL separates among:
VALIDATED FESTIVALS
These festivals fully comply with FFL's festival validation policy. There is no doubt that they are established and/or legitimate events.
NOT VALIDATED FESTIVALS
These festivals don't fully comply with FFL's festival validation policy but appear to be legitimate events. We will leave you to decide whether you should submit to this event or not. Mission / description
The Adelaide Film Festival (AFF) is a celebration of Australian and international screen culture with a distinctive curated program that includes premiere screenings, special events, aw…ards and forums that attract industry and general public.
AFF Youth is the newest and youngest arm of the acclaimed Adelaide Film Festival, supported by the South Australian Department for Education.
AFF Youth’s aims to prepare a new generation of bold content makers and brave audiences by fostering a creative career pathway and by showing young people the best of global content for youth.
The program will comprise screenings for schools and families and be accompanied by a substantial creative industries’ program of workshops, forums Q&As and production opportunities.
We are calling for submissions from local, Australian and international professional filmmakers for shorts, feature films including feature documentaries, TV series (single and multi-episode) and VR (drama, documentary, hybrid, experimental and animation).
We also actively welcome shorts submissions from all youth for our national and international program and from South Australian school children, primary, middle and high schools for our State-wide School Filmmaking Competition.

General rules
All films must be for children and young people, and be able to meet appropriate ratings.
AFF looks for bold and original storytelling encouraging young people to embrace a diverse and complex world where they can make a courageous contribution.
Works by young students and classes must show a good grasp of storytelling and a developing technique.
To be eligible films must be
– They must be under 10 mins (if made by students).
– They must be in English or be subtitled in English
– They must be High Definition (1920 x 1080p to 4K).
– They must be accompanied by 2 high-resolution still images from the film (no larger than 700x700 pixels).
– They must be provided as a downloadable file via Dropbox, WeTransfer or Vimeo no later than 14 days after official selection.
– They must have been made in the last 2 years.
– You must own the rights (or be in the process of negotiating the rights) to any music used in the film.
- You must specify who your ideal audience is eg. Ideal for teenagers (13-year olds and above) or ideal for 5 to 10 year olds.
Professional Filmmakers
Films made by professional filmmakers must meet the general criteria.
Senior School Filmmakers
Films made by filmmakers aged 16 to 18 are eligible for the Senior School category if the producer, the director, and the camera operator/cinematographer (these can be the same person) are between 15 to 18 years old. Your film can be written by someone of any age; and can include cast members of any age. You can engage the help of an adult or professional for services such as music, editing, VFX, post-production.
Middle School Filmmakers
Films made by filmmakers aged 13 to 15 are eligible for the Middle School category if the producer, director and camera operator (these can be the same person) were 13 to 15 years old when the film was completed. The cast can be any age, and you may have assistance from an adult or teenager in the form of technical and creative advice. An adult or teenager may also be involved in the editing and post-production process. The most important point is that the key creative decision makers and the young people driving the project from idea to completion are under fifteen.
Primary School Filmmakers
Films made by filmmakers aged 5-to-12 year old are eligible for the Primary School category if the producer, director and camera operator (these can be the same person) were 12 year’s old and/or under when the film was completed. The cast can be any age, and you may have assistance from an adult or teenager in the form of technical and creative advice. An adult or teenager may also be involved in the editing and post-production process. The most important point is that the key creative decision makers and the young people driving the project from idea to completion are under twelve.
AFF Youth Rights
If your film is selected to screen at AFF Youth, AFF holds screening rights for 12 months from the date of screening. This is non-exclusive. AFF reserves the right to use your film or excerpts of your film including stills to promote future events or regional screenings and such similar events. If selected, you must inform AFF if you do not wish your film to be used for these purposes.
