Mission / description All our curators have been working have been working about the issues of power structures, political, social, economic and cultural participation, and challenging (visual) concepts of gender, ethnicity and migration. The festival curators, with one exception, have an Asian/mixed background, although the overall festival team of volunteers is very diverse.

The AFFB defines itself as an interdisciplinary and transnational platform that provides networking and exchange for people from the fields of visual art, academia and politics concerned about the issues of gender, ethnicity and nation-building. The festival’s vision is to contribute to the diversification of the representation of Asian visual and sociopolitical culture in Germany/Europe. The following general questions guide our programme selection and organisational development:

On which level can the films chosen for the AFFB open up new perspectives on Asia, in the media, academic and cultural landscapes of Europe?

How can the festival contribute to the empowerment of Asian immigrant communities in European civil society?

How can the festival facilitate networking and cooperation between Asians and Europeans working in visual art, academia and politics?

Festival is running every second year.
