Mission / description
In 2016, Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film enters its fourth year and expands from eight days to ten. We celebrate the finest action, animation, comedy, drama, fantasy, horror, thriller and… science fiction films from around the world. If it's good, we want to see it. For our fourth season, we also launch and incorporate the Buffalo Dreams Family Film Festival, featuring family entertainment and local films made by students under age 17. And our Original Screenplay competition will be judged by Roy Frumkes (STREET TRASH, THE SUBSTITUTE franchise, THE DEFINITIVE DOCUMENT OF THE DEAD).
We pride ourselves on being a truly international film festival, a filmmaker friendly event that focuses on the art of cinema and celebrates the wonder of the imagination. We'll let others woo you with hyperbole and sizzling descriptions; we stand on our record. In 2015, we screened 103 films: 23 features, 7 short features, 70 short films, and 3 music videos. We showed more regional and international films than any other festival in Western New York, and filmmakers attended from Mexico and Australia.
Our programming is divided into three divisions: North American (US and Canada), International (overseas and foreign language) and Western New York (locally produced films). Each year, our goal is to divide our programming as evenly as possible between these three divisions, but at the end of the day our first commitment is to show the best films possible.
