Mission / description This Festival attracts International filmmakers, directors, producers, performers, cultural tourists and prominent members of Australia’s film industry, not to mention plenty of appreciative locals. Byron Bay has a large filmmaking community and this is an opportunity for both established and new, emerging local filmmakers to see their works showcased alongside some of the best in the world.

The medium of film has become one of the most important avenues for raising awareness and bringing about social change. The BBFF is renowned for its vast range of films which reflect the values held by Byron’s vibrant local community including: spirituality and healing; conscious thinking and positive living; creativity and the arts; human rights, diversity and multiculturalism; the natural environment and environmental issues; indigenous culture; innovation; music; humour; and surfing.

Programming, however, is not limited to these themes as the festival’s priority is transporting their audience and their imaginations to worlds outside of their own.
