Cyprus International Film Festival (CYIFF) takes place annually, under the umbrella of Cultural International Festivals in cooperation with CINE@ART FESTIVALS network, on the beautiful Mediterranean island of Cyprus. The festival was inaugurated on March 23, 2006.

Since 2006 it operates with the support of the private sector and the local authorities.

The Cyprus International Film Festival is the biggest of artistic high value independent cinema event of the whole region, spilling over Cyprus boundaries and spreading over the whole region with repercussions reaching worldwide. CΥIFF is the first internationally oriented film festival which offers new and upcoming directors in multiple sectors of entertainment (such as feature films, short films, animations, music videos, dance, experimental films and video art) the opportunity to showcase their talent in front of a jury of internationally acclaimed cinema experts, directors and actors. CYIFF has a competitive section.
The festival is dedicated exclusively to the emerging independent filmmakers who are going to present the screening of their film produced within the last 36 months. With the competition section of first feature films in the category "Golden Aphrodite" and first short films in the category “CYIFF Got Talent", the festival's motto is the following: “The Best of the First!”.

• Only First Feature Films are eligible to participate for the “Golden Aphrodite Award”.
• All other feature films are eligible for the “CYPress Veteran`s Award”.
• Only First Short films are eligible to participate for the “CYIFF GOT TALENT Award”.
• All other short films are eligible for the "CYIFF Veterans'Short Films Awards".

CYIFF General Categories:
• Feature Films (up to 120 minutes) – all genres (including animation and documentaries produced the last 36 months)
• Short Films (up to 20 minutes) – all genres (including animation and documentaries produced the last 36 months)
• "Women films" are eligible for the Aphrodite Cinematic Award. Films with a female director and/or producer (no restriction in production year, genre or duration).
• "50/50" Films with 50% men and 50% women in credits
• Films about PEACE
• Films from filmmakers of Diaspora.

Pegasus Cinema Lab
“Pegasos Cinema Lab” A script contest runs for a short movie that will be filmed in Pafos, Cyprus. It will be screened during the “Golden Aphrodite” Awards Ceremony at the end of Cyprus International Film Festival! All scripts received will be evaluated and feedback will be given about the work. The committee will select the most complete and suitable script which will result in the creation of a short film that will be screened during the “Golden Aphrodite” Awards Ceremony. The only prerequisite for the script is that the story takes place in Pafos and that the duration of the shooting is two days. The festival will offer the necessary equipment for both the shooting and the editing. No previous experience in film is needed and all participants will be credited. A certificate of participation will also be given. 1.1. CYIFF is organized by Cultural International Festivals.

1.2. CYIFF will take place in Nicosia, Cyprus with the following objectives:

1.2.1. Promote sustainable development of film, screening and promoting new talents in this area;

1.2.2. Create new public for cinema;

1.2.3. Promote the interchange of experiences between the participants in the event;

1.2.4. Elevate the skills of the participants;

1.2.5. Promote the city of Pafos as a quality cultural tourism destination;
Offer a quality cultural event accessible to every individual.


2.1. CYIFF has a short/medium film and feature film competition:

2.1.1. All short films made by directors with no age restriction, no matter their nationality. The length of these films must not exceed 20 minutes.

2.1.2. The feature length film competition accepts films that are first
productions (regardless of the director’s age);

2.2. The films must have been concluded the lat 36 months. It is irrelavent if they have been screened in other festivals.

2.3. Films submitted for selection are accepted in the following downloadable formats: Vimeo, Youtube etc.

2.4. It is permitted for the applicant to submit more than one film (in separate entries);

2.5. Competition categories:

2.5.1. Golden Aprodite Feature Length Films (feature films that is the director's first feature film, regardless the director's age, and of a duration over 40 minutes and up to 120 minutes):

2.5.3. Prize for best Greek/Cypriot film in competition (selected from all Greek/Cypriot films eligible for competition):

2.5.4. Special categories - (no restriction on production year or Cyprus premiere):
- Films made by Women (director or producer)
- 50/50 equality in film credits of men and women.

2.5.5. Films not spoken in English must have hardcoded subtitles in English. Greek subtitles are welcomed to be embedded on the screen under the English subtitles


3.1. Film Submissions at CYIFF are dependent on a submission average fee between 35€ for short length - 65€ for feature length films. Fees waivers and discounts are offered to women film directors and producers, as an effort to promote national participation.

3.1.1. Payment of the submission fee will be available through PayPal on the festival’s website, filmfreeway and bank's account.

3.2. The entry form is available on the website at the end of the page:

3.2.1. Film submission must be entirely made online through our Online Entry Form. In this case, the film will be sent via a link submitted via the form. Your Submission Fee’s Transaction ID number will be requested upon filling of the Online Form.

3.2.2. The Official Application form will be sent to you upon the eligibility of the film submission.

3.4. Once a film is submitted to CYIFF, it cannot, for any reason, be removed from the program by the person or institution who submitted it;

3.5. All films and materials sent to CYIFF will not be returned and will remain in the festival’s archive;

3.6. By filling in the form and sending the application and film provides full legal authorization for CYIFF to present the film in the festival and in public presentations;


4.1. Expenses for the shipping and screening of films, are to be met by the film’s applicants and/or producer;

4.2. CYIFF will inform the applicants that have been selected for the competitive section by e-mail;


5.1. The festival accepts the following formats for exhibition: DCP, Blu-Ray, digital file .MP4 or .MOV, 1080p or 720p. The file has to be smaller than 2Gb (short/medium films) or smaller than 8GB (feature films). If the original language is not english, the file must be sent with English subtitles hardcoded.


6.1. The final screeners must be received until end of May.

6.2. We need also, at least, 3 stills in .JPEG, resolution 1920x1080px;

6.4. Biography of the director;

6.5. Trailer 30" and an excerpt of the film until 2 minutes for promotional purposes.

6.6. All these materials and others that the film’s representative find relevant must be sent untilend of May.

6.7 The final selection will be shared on our official website (; CYIFF DOES NOT guarantee that every single submission contact will be informed individually about the selection or non-selection of any film.

6.8 Each selected film will have one free badge which gives free access to screenings and training activities of CYIFF.


7.1. There will be a pre-selection jury, selected by CYIFF , to select the films for the competitive section;

7.1.1. Besides the jury’s selection criteria, the final selection will be conditioned by the time specified by the organization for the competitive sessions.

7.2. The final jury at the festival will be composed of 3 to 7 members, who will evaluate the selected films in the competitive section.

7.2.1. The final jury will make their winning selections without appeal from the outside and according to rules based on general principles determined by CYIFF. The final jury has the right to not dispense any one of the prizes if the criteria, in their belief, are not met.

7.3. The jury may award honourable mentions to any of these categories;

7.4. The Festival’s media participants and visitors may also present a CYIFF PRESS Award;

7.5. The prizes are consisting of a Certificate and sometimes a special trophy which will be given live during the Golden Aphrodite Awards Ceremony to the winner or their representative.


8.1. All eventual doubts or omissions in the regulation will be solved by CYIFF l following rules of equity and good judgement.

8.2. All submissions to CYIFF translate full acceptance and no reservations in the terms of the regulation.
