Mission / description Down Under Berlin - Australian Film Festival is the first exclusively Australian Film Festival in Berlin, thereby adding to the wide spectrum of film festivals in the city.

Down Under Berlin presents a range of Australian films of all genres from all eras of Australian film history, and for varied age groups. Current productions from new and young film-makers are included alongside films from past decades. Our audience will also be involved: they will choose their favourite films, with the winner of the Down Under Berlin Film Award to be announced on the closing night.

As beginnings are always “wild”, this year we will focus on alternative and independent productions, that exist beyond the artistic and political mainstream, and give us an exciting look into Australians and their cultures: „We show you Australia how it really is: raw, rough and real.“

Furthermore, in the section „Aboriginal Australia“ we bring a diverse group of films from, with and about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

The Down Under Berlin – Australian Film Festival led by festival director Frances Hill is organized by a group of film-loving Australian and German volunteers, and is financed through donations and the support of the Berlin business community.
