Mission / description The Global Independent Film Awards is an online awards competition dedicated to recognizing filmmakers and actors for high quality work. We understand the amount of effort, commitment, and dedication that goes into high caliber films. Likewise, we also realize how important it is for filmmakers who achieve success in various aspects of filmmaking to be recognized for their successes. It is this independent corroboration that demonstrates skill and expertise to studios, production companies, casting directors, producers, and investors. Because we value the hard work and merits of various departments and individuals who contribute to the total film experience, we offer a wide variety of awards to recognize well-deserving departments and individuals. We encourage all Official Selections, nominees, and winners to include this information on their resumes, demo reels, other self-promotional materials, film press kits, investor information packages, and the like.

We also understand that films and/or filmmakers often have a need to build credibility and momentum quickly. Therefore, the Global Independent Film Awards hosts monthly editions, chooses Official Selections and nominees, and selects winners on a monthly basis. Rather than waiting an entire year for a festival to make decisions, filmmakers have an opportunity to receive feedback, and build a base of nominations and/or awards quickly, which may prove beneficial in a number of respects.

Do any of these words describe your film? Action, Adventure, Avant-Garde, Comedy, Drama, Dramedy, Fantasy, Film Noir, GLBT, Human Rights, Faith-Based, Inspirational, Mystery, Romance, Romantic Comedy, Science Fiction, Suspense, Thriller, Horror, Experimental, (Dis)Ability, or Music Video. If any of these words describe your film, we want to see it!

Please note that we will not in any way display your materials online, with the exception of a poster and/or a trailer. We receive all of our submissions online. They are then judged, and winners determined. We will issue a press release with the names and titles of the winning submissions, and post this information on our website & social media outlets. We will not post your film in its entirety, especially because we do not want to jeopardize your premier and/or distribution status.

In order to keep submission fees reasonable, the Global Independent Film Awards is an online festival and does not publicly screen films. Here at GIFA headquarters, we value the hard work and merits of various departments and individuals who contribute to the total film experience. We offer a wide variety of awards to recognize well-deserving persons for their efforts. The Global Independent Film Awards reserves the right to award additional prizes if deemed appropriate, and/or to not present all of the awards listed if 1) none of the entries received meet the GIFA’s high standards, and/or 2) too few submissions are received to properly adjudicate a category.

All Official Selections, nominees, and winners will receive an award certificate in electronic (PDF) format celebrating their achievements, and laurels to include on their film and personal promotional materials. Rather than spreading the cost of trophies among all entrants up front, physical trophies may be purchased by winners for an additional fee, if desired. By submitting a film as an entry, filmmakers agree that if they are named as Official Selections, nominees, or win one or more awards, they will include the GIFA laurels on the promotional materials for their film and on their personal resumes on a go-forward basis.
