Mission / description The XXIX International Documentary, Short, and Animated Film Festival Message to Man will take place between 14 - 21 September 2019 in St. Petersburg, Russia. This is the oldest documentary film festival in Russia, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2015. The competition sections include full-length and short documentaries, fiction shorts, animation shorts and experimental films. The total prize fund is around $20,000. The festival takes place in one of the most beautiful cities of the world.

“Message to Man” was founded in 1989 to emphasize the important role of non-feature films in cultural life of the USSR and allow national documentary filmmakers become more familiar with the world of international cinema. However, with years, the goals of the Festival had broadened and as a result, short fiction and animated films were added to the competition program.

“Message to Man” is the only international documentary, short and animated film festival in Russia and in the countries of former Soviet Union that is officially registered by the International Federation of Film Producers Association in Paris (Federation Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films – FIAPF).
