Mission / description Welcome to the Berlin cell of the largest international community of filmmakers and actors. Welcome to non-competitive no-budget filmmaking under time-pressue.

We create ans screen short films within a few days. Our annual events in September are called KinoKabarets. We are part of the KINO movement, a large community of independent film talents currently operating in 70 cities around the world.

KinoKabarets include brainstorming, scripting, filming, editing the material and also composing music and sound fx. We screen the results in a local cinema for a large public audience. The flix are not to exceed 7 minutes.

This year we offer special workshops for directing, steadycam, acting, editing, festival distribution and much more. KinoBerlino invited experts that will share their knowledge. We strive to raise the quality of the films you make.

We provide basic film equipment, a sound recording studio, motivated talents, a studio for the editors and a creative city. You bring the ideas and motivation.

We also have monthly open screenings for any short film up to 10 minutes in Berlin's oldes cinema Moviemento! Every last Thursday of the month!

The KINO movement was invented in Montreal in 1999.
The concept of quick digital filmmaking workshops spread like a virus to over 70 cities in the world.

KinoBerlino was founded in 2004. It has evolved into one of the biggest and most energetic events of this kind in Germany and Europe.

We have created and screened over 1000 movies here. Many of our alumnae attend film schools or produce their own works.

We are strictly non-competitive.
Our team sometimes selects films for broadcast, websites and DVD showcases.
We distribute these films worldwide as we see fit.

Open to the public. No entries required except for the monthly open cinema screening:

Filmmakers, editors, actors, authors, photographers, camera operators, focus pullers, amateurs, students, professionals, musicians, producers, directors, costume and make-up artists, composers, singers, experimentalists, set runners, production managers, sound mixers, boom operators, dancers, models, musicians, geeks, sfx artists, screenwriters, key grips, gaffers and everyone who wants to make a spontaneous or scripted film in 3 days or help in a crew.

Experience is welcome but not required. We are THE testing ground for media productions.

In our main annual Kinokabaret we only show films that are created during the event. They must be under 7 minutes running time and can be of all genres, except unlawful or obscene content.

We screen digital formats exclusively.
MP4 in 720p or 1080p with up to 10 Mbit/s

The details about the formats are explained to the participants during the event.

Participation fees are 30 € for each round.
(These prices might change.)

Included is the price for basic breakfast, accommodation with local participants and access to film and editing equipment (as much as we can organize). We do have a sound recording studio as well.
