FFL's Festival Validation
FFL feels responsible for only allowing legitimate and relevant festivals to accept submissions through our platform. Thus we verify the festival's legitimacy and relevance before pushing the call for submissions live. Some festivals are not being allowed to accept submissions at all. For festivals allowed to accept submissions FFL separates among:
VALIDATED FESTIVALS
These festivals fully comply with FFL's festival validation policy. There is no doubt that they are established and/or legitimate events.
NOT VALIDATED FESTIVALS
These festivals don't fully comply with FFL's festival validation policy but appear to be legitimate events. We will leave you to decide whether you should submit to this event or not. We also welcome any feedback about these events. You can report your experience at verification@filmfestivallife.com

Mission / description
Reykjavik International Film Festival (RIFF) was founded in 2004 by a group of film enthusiasts and professionals with the goal of creating an annual international film festival in Reyk…javik. The aim was to establish a major film event to enrich and enliven the local film culture, but moreover, to become an international attraction. We believe that by building up an innovative film festival in Reykjavik, our foreign guests will have a unique opportunity to participate in an exciting cultural event, as well as visiting a country renowned for its natural wonders and dynamic culture.
The festival organized its first event in Reykjavik in November 2004, initiating a discussion of the role and importance of film festivals in a local and international context. A festival program was organized in relation to the seminar, showing films by Icelandic film directors and professionals that work outside of Iceland.

I attended in 2008 as accredited press but as far as I know, there was no press centre or other support. I was invited to a couple of lovely events by the Icelandic Film Centre, and through them found out about the closing night party, but the festival organizers themselves seemed far less organized. Shuttle buses to distant events never appeared, and a special screening and lecture on an early Icelandic film had no English translation/subtitles. A lovely city and nice people, but hopefully the organizational issues are much improved.
