Mission / description The Tasmanian Breath of Fresh Air (BOFA) Film Festival is intimate, thought-provoking and fun. BOFA is small enough to be friendly – not a black T-shirt or snooty attitude in sight and big enough to be international in perspective. We find fresh, innovative stories to inspire you to see the world differently – truly a ‘breath of fresh air’.

We show shorts at each screening and lead you in a conversation with film makers and experts after most films. We party hard at our red carpet opening night party, at the Share the Bounty dinner, at the Innovative Tasmania Awards, at the BOFA Devil Screen Industry Awards and on closing night.

Our Festival Lounge features great Tasmanian wines, barista coffee and food (including the world’s best vegetarian) – the perfect place to chill or chat.

Just a short drive or flight away and with the beauties and wonders of the Tamar Valley and Tasmania to visit post-festival.

"Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed my first BOFA! You’ve genuinely achieved something that is world-class. I’m rather in awe of how the festival expertly and uniquely traverses the feeling of a top-notch film festival whilst being distinctly “of here”. It’s hard to put my finger squarely on it… but this is really something special. Accessible, vibrant, earthy, arty, inclusive, clean, succinct, familiar, honest, sincere, grounded, international and Australian. Hmm. More than anything I think BOFA now assuredly assists to define what Tassie is to the world - it will be at the forefront of what sets the tone of Tassie - rather than a festival trying to simply capture and describe what Tassie is to outsiders. BOFA is Tassie." Chris Pattinson, actor and script writer.

BOFA aims to play an important role in the development of Tasmania as a creative state with an appealing lifestyle and a vibrant screen industry. BOFA wants to be seen as THE Tasmanian film festival which is ‘owned’ by the local screen industry with competitions, prizes and awards to aim towards – competitions that promote excellence and are a benchmark for the state.

BOFA 2015 focuses on challenging and acknowledging the highly creative Tasmanian screen industry with not just one, but three, competitions and BOFA Devil awards. These reflect the importance of short film production, script writing and entrepreneurial spirit in the making of a successful career in the Tasmanian screen industry.
