Any place that has a "Hippies Welcome" in the front window of the local diner has to be a pretty groovy festival venue. This was POUSTINIA's first festival selection - and we found the crowds, the atmosphere, the staff, the setting all laid back but appreciative and enthusiastic. Some of the locals expressed their annoyance with the deluge of out-of-towners crowding their sidewalks and shops - but most are friendly. The screenings are held in about five separate towns and some distances are a bit of a jaunt on harrowingly small winding roads - so plan some time between screenings and panels in your schedule. We arrived at the awards banquet a bit late - the lights were already out - so when jurors Leon Gast, Lisa Gossels and Paul Rachman announced that POUSTINIA had won the short doc prize - we had barely warmed our seats! It was a great experience and I hope to go back next year! Kristian Around 6 years ago
