Mission / description Every year in November, exground filmfest – one of the most important film festivals in Germany for Independent Film – brings international independent short- and feature-length film highlights to the Hessian capital.

Since its establishment in 1990, exground film festival has focused on films beyond common Hollywood productions and thus offers „a distinguished programme comprised of international feature length and short films beyond everyday Hollywood blockbusters” (comment of the German newspaper Frankfurter Rundschau, November 2001)

The programme is as diverse as its creators: in the course of a ten day festival, approximately 300 films in the categories American Independents, News from Asia, International, German and Short film are presented and complemented by various competitions and special programmes.
Yet, exground film festival is not only present in November: Apart from the “exground halbzeit” every year in May, every month the exground film team presents an especially recommended “exground film” and an “exground Youth Film” in one of the most beautiful German movie theatres, the Caligari Cinema.
