Lydia Rui is a Chinese Australian filmmaker and photographer. She grew up between mainland China, Hong Kong, and Australia until the age of 13, when she left home to live in Singapore. She briefly attended University of Melbourne, Australia before moving to New York at age 18. She graduated with a BFA from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts for Film & TV. At 23 years old, she was the first female videographer for Beyoncé Knowles’ Mrs. Carter World Tour — travelling through North America and Europe. Upon returning to Melbourne, she was a full time Director's Assistant for Garth Davis' production company Exit Films. She now pursues her own directing projects. “THIS IS YARRA” is her first film since graduating. Lydia seeks to empower, enrich, and enliven through storytelling. full text less text
