Today we spoke to Johannes Palmroos, Program Coordinator at the
24th STOCKHOLM INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
DEADLINE • 16 August 2013
In terms of sections or awards, we have an expanded industry program right now for new talents. There is one that is called Stockholm Debut for young directors wanting to make their feature debut. We have workshops for three days during the festival. Apart from that our focus is on the competition section which is for first, second and third features. So, finding new talent and getting these new voices out there. That is really our focus and I would say one third of our lineup are debuts; that is really important for us.
I think it is important for us to have an edge and in some circumstances to be able to choose films that are maybe controversial and hard for other festivals and still maybe put them in the mix with those bigger or conventional films. We do have a very broad audience; we are a very audience based festival.
I think Stockholm with many theaters in the center, it is a very intimate festival. It is not too much about finding an audience and if you are lucky you will find distribution as well, because we have a lot of distribution companies present. It is a relaxed environment which is what I love about the festival. You can have some in-depth meetings with the guests here. We have more than a hundred directors slash producers present so it is a great place for that. Especially also meeting new Swedish talent or Nordic talent it is also a very good and relaxed environment for that. We are at the center here.
