Please meet Julian Reich, an American born German director and producer, who has a background in various areas of filmmaking. Since graduating in 2001 with a BfA in Film and Photography at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, he has directed commercials, music videos, short films, and additionally worked as a freelance photographer.

The multitalented Julian is currently working on a feature film and is a good example of a filmmaker embracing a pro-active marketing strategy through additional digital channels. He actually created a trailer for this feature in development and released it online. Watch the trailer here, and check Julian’s website to discover even more of his work. Here you can discover his thoughts about film festivals.

Focus in filmmaking:

Documentary films.

Favorite film festival:

I like the Berlinale a lot. Telluride film festival is also quite interesting.

Importance of film festivals:

I love the retrospectives, because I get to watch  – on the big screen – all those awesome films which made me want to become a filmmaker. Furthermore you meet people, which share the same passion as you do.

Advice to other filmmakers when approaching film festivals:

Be honest and simple. Just tell a story in the simplest way you can.

Importance of the internet:

The Internet is the first place to find information, but I haven’t found out how to use it as a source of inspiration yet.
